June Go Local Spotlight
Our Go Local Spotlight for June is The Schmankerl Stube in Hagerstown! The Stube has been a mainstay in Hagerstown since 1988. Deiter Blosel took over in 2008 and the restaurant has become a destination for locals and tourists in the area. The business has been built naturally over the years and has developed quite a following. Guests come from over 100 miles away to visit the restaurant and others make sure to travel through Hagerstown to stop for a meal.
With every ethnic restaurant, the struggle is making popular dishes in the culture appealing to the American customer who is unfamiliar with the cuisine. At The Stube, you’ll find good descriptions of the menu offerings since American and German cuisines are so different. Their menu is developed with local and seasonal foods in mind. Some of the most popular menu items are Herzhafter Sauerbraten (Tender Pot Roast in Sweet-Sour Sauce), Knusperige Schweinshaxe (Pork Shank Bavarian Style with Rahmsauce), and the Schwarzwalder Kirsh Torte (Black Forest Cake).
The Stube is open Tuesday-Sunday. Stop by and try some delicious German dishes!
